MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

The Marysville Police Department implemented an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to address rising concerns about animal abuse in the community. Launched in September, the program has successfully trained more than 460 officers from nearly 70 different agencies. Officer Dave Vasconi, a key advocate for the initiative, stressed the importance of rescuing animals from abusive environments and providing them with necessary medical care and new homes post-court cases. Developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, the program aims to enhance accountability for offenders harming animals. Feedback from trained officers indicates a growing commitment to tackling animal cruelty issues.

The Community Service Unit, consisting of one reserve officer, specializes in enforcing laws against animal crimes. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected cruelty cases by calling 911 immediately. This proactive approach represents a significant step in protecting vulnerable animals in Marysville.
