MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new training program aims to combat animal cruelty, enrolling nearly 70 agencies and training over 460 officers since September. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's focus on rescuing animals from abusive situations and ensuring they receive necessary care and new homes post-court proceedings. The initiative, developed with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has led to increased animal rescues and prosecutions of offenders. Vasconi expressed his lifelong passion for animal welfare, emphasizing that animals rely on humans for their basic needs. The Director of Investigations at Pasado’s Safe Haven acknowledged the project's impact, noting the positive feedback from trained officers.

The Community Service Unit, led by Officer Vasconi, handles numerous animal cruelty complaints annually, often resulting in arrests. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911. This program represents a significant step forward in protecting vulnerable animals in the Marysville community.
