MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department introduced an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program in September, focused on enhancing the response to animal abuse. Nearly 70 agencies and over 460 officers have been trained through this initiative, reflecting its rapid adoption and success. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the necessity of rescuing animals and ensuring they receive medical care and new homes post-court cases. The program, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven, aims to hold offenders accountable for their actions. Participant feedback has been highly favorable, indicating a strong community response to the training.
The Community Service Unit, which includes Officer Vasconi, is responsible for investigating animal cruelty complaints, often leading to arrests and rescues. This proactive approach not only addresses immediate concerns but also fosters a culture of accountability regarding animal welfare. The unit encourages the public to report suspected animal cruelty by calling 911.
