MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to reduce animal abuse and improve enforcement of related laws. Launched in September, it has attracted nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers, demonstrating significant community engagement. Officer Dave Vasconi noted the importance of rescuing animals from abuse and providing them with the care they deserve. Developed in partnership with Pasado's Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, the program has generated positive feedback from participants. The training emphasizes the critical role of law enforcement in holding abusers accountable and ensuring the welfare of animals.

Marysville's Community Service Unit specializes in investigating crimes against animals and responds to numerous cruelty complaints each year. If citizens suspect animal cruelty, they are encouraged to report it by calling 911. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare within the community.
