MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department has initiated an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program, successfully training over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies to combat animal cruelty. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized that the program's main goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and ensure they receive medical care and new homes. Developed with Pasado’s Safe Haven, the training curriculum has led to a noticeable increase in animal rescues and accountability for offenders since its launch in September. Vasconi expressed his deep passion for animal welfare, stating that animals rely on humans for their basic needs and deserve compassion. The program has garnered positive feedback from participants, indicating its value in law enforcement training.
The Marysville Community Service Unit, which includes a reserve police officer specializing in animal crimes, responds to numerous cruelty complaints annually. Residents are urged to report suspected animal cruelty by calling 911. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare in the community.
