MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program, successfully training over 460 officers across nearly 70 agencies since September. This initiative aims to rescue animals from cruelty situations and ensure they receive necessary medical attention while finding them new homes after court proceedings. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi, who is deeply passionate about animal welfare, emphasizes that animals depend on humans for care and compassion. The training curriculum, designed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has seen impressive outcomes, with a notable increase in animal rescues and accountability for offenders. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many officers appreciating the curriculum's thoroughness.

The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, handles numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often leading to arrests and rescues. The program reflects a growing commitment to animal protection within the community. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected animal cruelty by calling 911.
