MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to combat animal cruelty in the region, now involving nearly 70 agencies and over 460 trained officers. Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the program's primary goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and ensure they receive necessary medical care and new homes. The initiative, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has seen significant success since its launch in September. Vasconi expressed his deep commitment to animal welfare, stressing that animals rely on humans for their basic needs and deserve compassion. The program has led to increased accountability for those who harm animals.

The Community Service Unit, which includes a reserve officer dedicated to animal crimes, responds to numerous cruelty complaints each year. Residents are urged to report any suspicions of animal cruelty by calling 911. This initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to safeguarding animal rights and welfare in Marysville.
