Piece of Marysville history restored, relocated to island by boat
A historic house from Marysville, built around 1900, has been successfully relocated to Hat Island, where it will serve as a vacation home. The city purchased the house in 2018 to facilitate the construction of the new Civic Campus, prompting its move by Nickel Bros. The relocation process, which involved transporting the house via barge down the Ebey Slough, required extensive planning and took several hours. The house, previously owned by former mayor Arthur Duborko and his family for over three decades, represents a significant piece of local history. Jeff McCord from Nickel Bros noted that moving historic homes is a sustainable alternative to new construction, offering affordability and environmental benefits.
The new homeowners expressed their gratitude for being part of this preservation effort, ensuring the house's continued enjoyment for future generations. The relocation reflects the city's foresight in valuing historic preservation and affordable housing. As the city embraces new developments, the little house on Hat Island begins a new chapter.
