MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to combat animal abuse, training nearly 70 agencies and over 460 officers since its inception in September. The program's primary goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with necessary medical care while facilitating new homes for them following court proceedings. Officer Dave Vasconi, who has a deep passion for animal welfare, expressed his commitment to being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. This initiative has led to a significant increase in successful rescues and prosecutions of offenders. The training curriculum was developed in collaboration with Pasado's Safe Haven, which has reported positive feedback from participants.

The program is crucial for raising awareness and enhancing the skills of law enforcement in handling animal cruelty cases. Marysville’s Community Service Unit focuses on enforcing laws against animal crimes and responding to numerous cruelty complaints each year. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately.
