Boys Girls Clubs celebration in Marysville Sept. 15

Marysville, WALocal News

On September 15, the City of Marysville and Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County will host a ceremony marking the completion of a 15-year lease for the Marysville branch building. During the ceremony, the city will officially hand over the keys to the facility, which has served as a vital resource for the community. Former Mayor Dennis Kendall, a proponent of a youth recreation center, initiated a fundraising campaign in 2009 that successfully secured the building with $487,000 from the Washington State Legislature and contributions from local organizations. The building, constructed in 1961, has a rich history, originally serving as a community center and housing the Marysville YMCA. It has been renamed in honor of Gordy Bjorg, with additional recognition for the Jubie brothers on the gymnasium floor.

This event underscores the importance of local partnerships in fostering youth development. The celebration will include a community open house, inviting residents to learn more about the facility’s history and future.
