Boys Girls Clubs Celebration in Marysville Sept. 15

Marysville, WALocal News

The City of Marysville will celebrate the Boys & Girls Clubs' legacy on September 15 at noon, marking the end of a 15-year lease/purchase agreement. The ceremony will officially transfer the keys to the Marysville branch, recognizing the community's collective efforts in supporting youth recreation. Former Mayor Dennis Kendall, a key proponent of the project, initiated a fundraising campaign that secured significant contributions from local organizations, including $487,000 from the Washington State Legislature. The building's history dates back to 1961, originally constructed by Marysville Police Reserves to serve as a community center. It has previously housed Marysville's first high school, as well as an elementary and middle school.

The event will also honor key donors, including Carol Bjorg, in memory of her late husband, and the Jubie brothers. A community open house will follow the ceremony, allowing residents to engage with the Boys & Girls Clubs' mission. This celebration underscores the importance of community commitment to providing safe recreational spaces for youth.
