Boys Girls Clubs celebration in Marysville Sept. 15

Marysville, WALocal News

The City of Marysville and Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County will celebrate the end of a 15-year lease on September 15 at 1010 Beach Ave. The event will feature a key handover ceremony and a community open house, highlighting the commitment to local youth. The late Mayor Dennis Kendall was instrumental in establishing a youth recreation center downtown, launching fundraising efforts that began in 2009. The project garnered $487,000 from the Washington State Legislature and support from local organizations, including Marysville Rotary. The building opened in 1961, constructed by Marysville Police Reserves, and initially housed the Marysville YMCA.

It also served as the site for the city's first high school, which opened in 1907. The contributions of donors like Carol Bjorg, who honored the late Gordy Bjorg, reflect the community's dedication to youth services. This celebration marks a significant moment in Marysville's history and commitment to its younger residents.
