MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to combat animal cruelty effectively. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized the importance of rescuing animals from abusive circumstances and providing them with medical care and new homes after investigations. The program, developed with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its initiation in September. Participants have reported positive experiences, reflecting the program's effectiveness in raising awareness and accountability. The Director of Investigations and Rescue Operations at Pasado's Safe Haven acknowledged the contributions of team members who helped develop the curriculum.

Marysville's Community Service Unit is dedicated to enforcing state laws regarding animal welfare, and Officer Vasconi handles numerous animal cruelty complaints annually. If residents suspect animal cruelty, they are urged to call 911 to report it immediately. This initiative highlights the community's commitment to protecting vulnerable animals and ensuring justice for those who harm them.
