MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to reduce animal abuse and has trained over 460 officers across nearly 70 agencies since its September launch. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's focus on rescuing animals from abuse and providing them with medical care. Developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, the initiative has produced notable outcomes, including increased accountability for offenders. Vasconi expressed his passion for animal welfare, stating that animals depend on humans for their basic needs and care. The Community Service Unit, which Vasconi leads, is responsible for investigating animal cruelty complaints and assisting police patrols.

The program enhances law enforcement's ability to address abuse effectively. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected animal cruelty immediately by dialing 911. This initiative underscores a growing commitment to animal rights and welfare in the Marysville community.
