Boys Girls Clubs celebration in Marysville Sept. 15
The City of Marysville will celebrate the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County on September 15 at noon, marking the end of a 15-year lease for the Marysville branch building. The event will feature a key handover ceremony and a community open house at 1010 Beach Ave. Former Mayor Dennis Kendall was instrumental in creating a safe drop-in youth recreation center, having raised funds to purchase the building in 2009. The Washington State Legislature supported the initiative with a $487,000 grant, alongside generous contributions from local organizations such as the Marysville Rotary and individual donors. The branch is named after Carol Bjorg's late husband, Gordy Bjorg, and recognizes the late Harv Jubie and his brother, Larry Jubie, for their support.
The building itself, opened in 1961, has a rich history as it was initially constructed by Marysville Police Reserves and has served various educational purposes. This celebration not only honors the history of the Boys & Girls Clubs but also underscores the community's commitment to youth development. The event signifies a new chapter for the Marysville branch as it transitions to full ownership by the Boys & Girls Clubs.
