Boys Girls Clubs celebration in Marysville Sept. 15

Marysville, WALocal News

The City of Marysville will celebrate the Boys & Girls Clubs’ successful acquisition of their branch building on September 15 at noon. The key handover ceremony will occur at 1010 Beach Ave. , accompanied by a community open house. Former Mayor Dennis Kendall advocated for a youth recreation center downtown, leading a fundraising campaign that made the project possible. The Washington State Legislature contributed $487,000, supplemented by donations from local organizations like Marysville Rotary and individual contributors.

Notably, Carol Bjorg honored her late husband, Gordy, by supporting the club, which now bears his name. The building, opened in 1961, was initially constructed by Marysville Police Reserves as a community center. It previously served as the Marysville YMCA and housed Marysville’s first high school. This celebration underscores the enduring community effort to support youth and provide safe recreational spaces.
