Marysville remembers Sept. 11 with public ceremony

The City of Marysville, in partnership with the Marysville Fire District and Police Department, will hold a remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a. m. on September 11 to mark 24 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks. This solemn event honors nearly 3,000 victims, including 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives. Lt.

Jeff Thornton, a member of the Marysville Fire District, is also remembered for his sacrifice, having passed away due to cancer linked to his service. Mayor Jon Nehring will provide remarks, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity in remembrance. The ceremony will feature a presentation by the prestigious Honor Guard of the Marysville Fire District. This event not only highlights the tragic loss but also serves as a reminder of the bravery displayed by first responders. The community is encouraged to attend and participate in the remembrance.

A recording of the ceremony will be made available for those unable to attend in person.
