MPD now equipped with BolaWrap devices

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has equipped its officers with BolaWrap devices, enhancing their ability to safely apprehend suspects from 10-25 feet away. This innovative restraint tool uses a Kevlar cord propelled by a small pyrotechnic charge, allowing officers to detain individuals while minimizing the risk of injury. By providing a non-lethal alternative to Tasers, batons, and pepper spray, the department aims to improve safety for both officers and suspects during confrontations. BolaWraps have gained recognition as valuable de-escalation tools used by law enforcement agencies globally. The introduction of this device is part of a broader effort to adopt safer policing methods.

Officers are trained to utilize the BolaWrap effectively in the field, ensuring that it complements existing protocols. The department emphasizes the importance of reducing injury risks while maintaining public safety. As BolaWraps become more integrated into law enforcement practices, they signify a shift towards innovative de-escalation strategies.
