Boys Girls Clubs celebration in Marysville Sept. 15

Marysville, WALocal News

The City of Marysville and Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County will celebrate the transfer of the Boys & Girls Club branch building on September 15 at 12 p. m. The event will honor former Mayor Dennis Kendall's vision for a downtown youth recreation center, culminating in a community open house. The city will officially hand over the keys after the club completed a 15-year lease/purchase agreement. Funding for the project included $487,000 from the Washington State Legislature, alongside donations from the Marysville Rotary and other local supporters.

The building, which opened in 1961, has a rich history as a community center, originally established by the Marysville Police Reserves. It was previously home to the Marysville YMCA and served as a school facility for many years. The Boys & Girls Clubs branch has been renamed in honor of local benefactor Gordy Bjorg, reflecting the community's ongoing commitment to youth services. This celebration marks a significant milestone in the city’s investment in youth recreation and community development.
