Edmonds School District projects 2.6M general fund balance for 2025-26 budget

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District expects a $2. 6 million general fund balance for the 2025-26 school year, prompting a vote on the proposed budget set for July 8. This positive financial outlook follows several years of budget cuts aimed at addressing significant deficits. Executive Finance Director Lydia Sellie noted that the district's improved position results from legislative changes allowing the collection of a voter-approved levy in 2026. Increased funding during the COVID-19 pandemic from ESSER funds contributed to the fund balance, though recent years required difficult financial choices.

Prior to the budget discussion, the board will recognize Hazlewood, Seaview, and Terrace Park Elementary schools for their role in closing opportunity gaps and enhancing student achievement. A public hearing on the proposed budget will follow the recognition, allowing community input. In addition to the budget proposal, the board will also vote on the Madrona Bioretention Replacement Project and Maplewood K-8 Field Upgrades Project. The meeting, taking place at 6:30 p. m.

on June 24 at the Educational Services Center, will be livestreamed on the district's website.
