Art Beat Celebrating storytellers from the page to the stage

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Simply Stories will host a free workshop on June 24 at the Edmonds Waterfront Center for artists looking to contribute illustrations to short fiction books aimed at adults with limited literacy. The books, written in English and Spanish, feature appealing themes and plots despite their brevity. Artists can select a text to illustrate, with the possibility of receiving royalties once the books are published later this year. Concurrently, the Edmonds Driftwood Players will present their 14th Annual Festival of Shorts from June 26-29, featuring eight films chosen from a competitive pool of 635 submissions worldwide. Local theatre aficionados will evaluate the entries, ensuring fairness through a blind judging process.

After the festival, awards will be given for the top playwrights, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Judges’ Awards. Additionally, on June 27, Liz Wong will lead a Story Time session at Edmonds Bookshop, where she will read from her books and engage children in a craft activity. These events collectively foster artistic expression and community involvement in Edmonds.
