Environmental Series Restoring Sunflower Sea Stars at Edmonds Waterfront Center Nov. 20

The Edmonds Environmental Speaker Series will present a talk on restoring sunflower sea stars, a vital species for kelp forests, at the Edmonds Waterfront Center on Nov. 20. Jason Hodin, a senior research scientist from the University of Washington, will discuss the restoration efforts for this critically endangered species, which has been severely impacted by sea star wasting disease. The event starts at 6:30 p. m.

, following a 6 p. m. recognition ceremony for four Hazelwood Elementary students receiving the President’s Environmental Youth Award. Their project focuses on the biodiversity of the Edmonds Underwater Park, showcased through a documentary film and collaborative artwork under the guidance of teacher Barbara Bromley. Annie Crawley, the event host and an advocate for ocean conservation, will also be present.

Attendees will have access to subtitles and assistive listening devices to enhance the experience. Tickets cost $7. 50, and online sales close at 4 p. m. on the day of the event.

Walk-ins are welcome, contingent on available seating.
