Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District will adjust school lunch prices starting Dec. 1 to comply with federal regulations. Elementary lunches will cost $3. 75, secondary lunches will be $4. 25, and adult lunches will rise to $5.

50, marking increases of 25 and 50 cents, respectively. The district stated that federal law requires meal prices for paid lunches to exceed the reimbursement rate for free and reduced-price meals. Acknowledging the impact of price increases on families, the district encourages applications for Free and Reduced-Price Meal benefits available year-round. Designated schools will still provide free breakfast and lunch, supported by full federal reimbursement. This pricing adjustment aims to ensure compliance with federal standards while maintaining support for families in need.

The message reflects the district's focus on financial fairness and accessibility in school nutrition. The changes underscore a broader trend in school districts adapting to federal meal pricing regulations.
