Lynnwood council to discuss housing, potential city youth board at special meeting June 18

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Lynnwood City Council will convene a special meeting on June 18 at 6 p. m. to address housing issues and the potential formation of a youth council. The meeting will feature insights from Laurie Olsen and Chris Collier of the Housing Authority of Snohomish County regarding housing developments in the city. Following this, Councilmember Derica Escamilla will provide an update on the youth council initiative she proposed in August 2024, which aims to engage local youth in government and community leadership.

The council will evaluate whether the youth group should be designated as an official city board or commission, which would entail additional requirements. To facilitate this decision, the council plans to create a task group to explore the implications of each option. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of youth involvement in local governance. This meeting serves as an opportunity for community feedback and engagement. The full agenda can be accessed on the city’s website.
