Art Beat QA Tanya Sharp on how Spark! Creativity is igniting art confidence in local schools

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Tanya Sharp founded Spark! Creativity to enhance arts education in Snohomish County schools, launching pilot programs at Madrona K-8 and Henry M. Jackson High School. Students engaged in visual arts, ceramics, and creative writing, gaining essential tools for self-expression and confidence. Sharp's inspiration stemmed from her experience in an Arts Leadership program at Seattle University and her observations of local schools lacking art education.

The program's mission focuses on bridging the gap in arts access for youth, fostering their personal and professional growth. Notable projects included revitalizing a dormant ceramics program and creating community art projects, which helped students process their emotions. A fundraising event is scheduled to celebrate Spark! Creativity's first year, with tickets available for $75. The initiative collaborates with local organizations like Graphite Arts Center to ensure sustainable access to art materials and training for teachers.

By integrating arts education early, Spark! Creativity aims to empower students and equip them with lifelong skills.
