The Edmonds-Woodway Class of 2025 heads into the sunset

The Edmonds-Woodway High School Class of 2025 celebrated their graduation on June 14 at Edmonds School Stadium, surrounded by friends and family. Student speaker Abel Mekonen emphasized the importance of building a legacy, focusing on the impact graduates have made during their time in school. He organized the first Afro-fusion Night, where over 500 students celebrated their African heritage. Faculty speaker Michael Simon encouraged students to seek careers they love, stating, “In life, there is nothing worse than getting stuck doing something because you have to. ” Associate Student Body President Mio Masunaga shared her feelings of uncertainty about the future, recalling her last cross-country meet as a defining moment.

She expressed that her identity was shaped by her experiences and the values gained from her sport. Masunaga urged her classmates to recognize their worth beyond labels like IB or athletics. The ceremony highlighted the transition into adulthood while celebrating the support from mentors and family.
