Lynnwood, WALocal News

Snohomish County is actively recruiting candidates for an open seat on the Board of Health, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in shaping public health policies. The Board plays a crucial role in addressing issues such as opioid misuse, immunization promotion, and climate change impacts. Director Dennis Worsham stressed that community-driven leadership can lead to better-informed decisions that reflect local needs. The board consists of nine members, including elected officials and healthcare representatives, with the current vacancy specifically aimed at a “consumer of public health. ” Eligible applicants must be county residents who have faced significant health inequities and cannot have ties to health facilities or service providers.

Preference will be given to individuals from historically underrepresented communities to enhance diversity on the board. Community members can help with recruitment efforts by sharing promotional materials available online. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, with a priority deadline of June 30 for those interested.
