Its important that we all have a say in where we live Esperance residents oppose county rezone proposal

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Snohomish County residents gathered at a planning commission meeting to express concerns regarding a proposed rezone of Esperance from single-family to multi-family housing. The commission voted 6-1 to recommend the rezone, which aims to address the county's housing deficit. Residents raised issues about the lack of adequate infrastructure, such as parking and road capacity, to support increased population density. They also feared that new developments would lead to higher traffic, crime rates, and the loss of green spaces. Supporters argued the rezone aligns with the Growth Management Act and would generate revenue for the county.

The planning commission emphasized the need for more housing options amidst a state-wide housing crisis. The County Council is expected to review the proposal later this year. Approximately 4,000 people currently reside in Esperance, making the outcome of this proposal significant for the local community.
