Former Kruger Clinic named in honor of Verdant Health Commissioner Fred Langer

The former Kruger Clinic was officially renamed the Fred Langer building on June 3, 2025, in a ceremony attended by local officials and Langer's family. Fred Langer served as a Verdant Health Commissioner from 1998 until his death in 2021, contributing significantly to the establishment of the Verdant Health Commission. The newly renovated facility, which underwent a $9 million upgrade in 2023, now offers essential health services including urgent care and gastroenterology. Verdant Board President Karianna Wilson welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of the renaming. Edmonds Mayor Mike Rosen praised Langer's vision for community health, stating, "We can and we should do better.

" Swedish Edmonds CEO Kristy Carrington noted a 6% increase in patient visits, with over 90,000 treated last year, illustrating the growing demand for health care. A plaque honoring Langer was presented to his family, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony where they participated in the unveiling. Langer's mother expressed pride in her son's legacy, stating the community is fortunate to have had him.
