School board celebrates Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace students

During its May 27 meeting, the Edmonds School Board celebrated local students' accomplishments in journalism and robotics. Mountlake Terrace High School's journalism team received the First Amendment Press Freedom Award for the 12th consecutive year, represented by advisor Vince DeMiero and co-editor Evan Kerani. Lynnwood High School's Royal Robotics team won the Industrial Design Award and the Gracious Professionalism Award at the 2025 FIRST National Championship, while Mountlake Terrace's Chill Out Robotics team excelled as well, winning the Autonomous Award. Edmonds Elementary School students presented their strategies to increase feelings of belonging among students, aiming to raise the metric from 77% to 90% by 2027. Principal Heather Paddock shared goals to boost math proficiency from 58.

7% to 75% by Spring 2027. The board discussed the Grading Practices Task Force's challenges in reaching a consensus on grading revisions, which some members deemed crucial for fairness. Additionally, the board approved updates to child abuse and neglect policies to align with district procedures. The meeting addressed significant educational initiatives and policy updates affecting local students.
