Public input sought on possible ferry fare changes

The Washington State Transportation Commission is evaluating ferry fare changes for the 2025-2027 budget cycle and is seeking public input until June 9. Proposed adjustments include a 2. 5% fare increase for both passengers and vehicles in October 2025 and again in October 2026, along with extending the expiration date of multiride passes from 90 to 120 days. Furthermore, the commission aims to increase summer surcharges for vehicles on certain routes to 30%, bringing them closer to the 35% surcharge on Anacortes-San Juan Islands routes. The online open house allows the public to learn more and submit comments until 5 p.

m. on June 9. Key fare changes mandated by the Legislature include a 50-cent increase to the vessel replacement surcharge and a 3% fee for credit card processing starting in 2026. Public comments will inform the commissioners’ proposal, presented during a virtual meeting on June 17. A final hearing will occur in August, with fare adjustments expected to take effect on October 1, 2025.
