Prom night at Scriber Lake HS Students treat themselves to face painting, cotton candy and music
On May 16, Scriber Lake High School held its annual prom, creating a joyful environment for its roughly 200 students, many of whom are low-income. The nonprofit Washington Kids organized the event, stepping in to support a school without a parent-teacher organization. Activities included a DJ, face painting, cotton candy, and a raffle with enticing prizes such as a new computer monitor. Senior Max Whalen noted that attending prom was an experience not to be missed. Washington Kids Executive Director Kim Gorney highlighted the growth in donations for the event, which provides essential resources for students facing homelessness.
Rachel Pepera, who wore a donated red dress, expressed her excitement for the prom, which coincided with her birthday. The event’s smaller size compared to other high school proms appealed to junior Jasper Rhodes, who appreciated the relaxed atmosphere. This celebration underscores the community’s commitment to supporting Scriber Lake’s students.
