School board approves performance-based pathway for graduation

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District Board approved a performance-based graduation pathway at its May 13 meeting, enabling students to propose personalized learning contracts to meet graduation requirements. This new option, based on a model from the Washington State School Directors’ Association, ensures that student work is evaluated by certified teachers using state proficiency targets. In addition to this significant educational initiative, the board addressed emergency waiver requests for the 2024-2025 school year, excusing students due to power outages caused by storms. The board also finalized a sale agreement for a land parcel in Edmonds, which had been partially unsold since 1977. The current owner is prepared to pay the fair market price and reimburse the district for appraisal costs.

The board celebrated the achievements of scholarship recipients and recognized the Meadowdale Players for their performance at the International Thespian Festival. These decisions highlight the board's focus on improving educational pathways and supporting local students. The meeting underscores the district's proactive approach to both curricular innovation and community engagement.
