Climate Protection Local EV purchasing grows 26

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Electric vehicle purchases in the Edmonds-Lynnwood-Mountlake Terrace area surged by 26% from Q1 2024 to Q1 2025, increasing from 6% to 8% of total vehicle sales. In contrast, sales of gasoline-powered vehicles declined from 94% to 92%. According to the Washington State Department of Licensing, statewide EV purchases rose 48% for used cars and 6% for new ones, indicating a robust market for electric vehicles. Currently, electric vehicles comprise 3% of all registered vehicles in Washington, with one out of 25 cars in the Edmonds-Lynnwood-MLT area being electric. The ongoing $4,000 tax credit for EV buyers supports this trend.

Additionally, half of the electric vehicles in the state were built within the last two years, contributing to the growing visibility of EVs on the road. As the market for used EVs expands, buyers are encouraged to consider these options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The shift towards electric vehicles aligns with broader efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability.
