VFW Post 8870 announces student scholarship winners

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Edmonds-based VFW Post 8870 has awarded the James Traner Freedom and Memorial Scholarship to four outstanding students for fall 2025. Each winner will receive $1,500 to assist in their college or trade school education. The selection process focused on four key criteria: an essay on the meaning of freedom, grade point average, leadership, and community service. The winners include Kasey Fleger-Holmes from Meadowdale High School, Jessica Ruby Osburn from Lynnwood High School, Megan Cisneros from Archbishop Murphy High School, and Isabelle Fratto from Kamiak High School. This initiative highlights the VFW's commitment to fostering academic achievement and community service among local youth.

The essays provided insight into how students view freedom and the constitutional principles that uphold it. By recognizing these individuals, VFW Post 8870 aims to inspire future generations to engage with their communities and embrace the values of civic responsibility. The scholarship program reflects a broader effort to support education and leadership within the Edmonds area.
