Three schools in the Edmonds School District—Hazelwood, Seaview, and Terrace Park elementaries—received recognition from the Washington State Board of Education for their efforts in closing opportunity gaps. The schools were part of a group representing 16% of schools statewide that demonstrated exceptional progress in key areas of student success during the 2023-24 school year. Hazelwood Elementary achieved notable growth for low-income students, while Seaview Elementary was recognized for growth across multiple student demographics, including racial or ethnic groups and special education. Terrace Park Elementary also demonstrated significant growth in racial or ethnic groups and excelled in its Challenge Program, which achieved high marks in English language arts, math, and attendance. District Superintendent Rebecca Miner expressed pride in the efforts of the students, staff, and families, highlighting their commitment to equitable student success.

Each recognized school will receive a banner to celebrate their achievement. This recognition underscores the importance of targeted interventions in education and showcases the potential for schools to make meaningful impacts on student outcomes. The state program aims to motivate schools to continue improving educational equity and performance.
