Toll rates on SR 99 tunnel set to increase July 1

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Washington State Transportation Commission approved a 3% increase in toll rates for the State Route 99 tunnel during its meeting on May 13. The new rates, effective July 1, will raise tolls by 5 cents during off-peak hours and by 10 cents during evening peak hours. Revenue generated from these tolls is crucial for covering construction debt, operational costs, and ongoing maintenance of the tunnel. This adjustment aligns with a plan adopted when tolling began in 2018, which mandates a 3% increase every three years to ensure sufficient funding. Tolls were last adjusted on July 1, 2022.

The commission aims to manage congestion on the SR 99 corridor through varying toll rates throughout the day. For a detailed breakdown of the new rates, visit the commission's website. The increase reflects ongoing efforts to maintain the infrastructure and financial viability of the tunnel.
