Prep boys soccer E-W downs Mount Vernon to advance in District tourney

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors triumphed over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs 3-1 in the District 1 3A Boys Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match held at Bulldog Stadium. Senior Thomas Robles scored first in the 35th minute, assisted by Alex Plumis, to give the Warriors a lead. In the second half, Plumis extended the advantage with a header in the 63rd minute, followed by a goal from Jesus Ortiz Suarez shortly after. The Bulldogs managed to score through a penalty kick in the 79th minute, but the Warriors maintained control of the match. Coach Jason Hanson highlighted the importance of the upcoming semifinal against the Shorewood Stormrays, stating that one more win leads to the state tournament.

The Warriors have a record of 6-4-2 in their league and are currently on a four-game winning streak. Mount Vernon had been strong, remaining unbeaten in their last ten matches before this defeat. The experience of the 13 seniors on the Warriors' roster was evident in their performance against a younger Bulldogs team.

Preservation work at 65 locations on Western Washington state highways begins July 14

Starting July 14, the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin highway repairs across 65 locations in King, Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, and Island counties. The work includes crack sealing and concrete panel replacement to extend the lifespan of highways and improve travel conditions. Nighttime closures and speed reductions will be implemented during construction.
