County Council Corner Offering thanks to volunteers at cold weather shelters

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Snohomish County's Cold Weather Shelters (CWS) significantly aided the homeless during the harsh winter months, especially between January 11 and February 14, when they operated for 34 out of 35 nights. On the coldest nights, over 250 individuals sought refuge across various locations, with the Marysville CWS providing 1,352 beds and nearly 1,800 volunteer hours. Local organizations, including the Everett Gospel Mission and Volunteers of America, collaborated to ensure that shelters were available whenever temperatures dipped below 34 degrees. The county supported these efforts by funding staffing, operations, and supplies, enhancing the shelters' capacity to assist vulnerable populations. On April 8, the Snohomish County Council passed Resolution 25-008, acknowledging the dedication and tireless efforts of the CWS staff and volunteers.

This resolution highlighted the importance of community service and the significant impact these shelters have on those in need. Additionally, free bus rides were offered by Everett Transit and Community Transit to help individuals reach the shelters. The collective efforts exemplify the resilience and compassion of the Snohomish County community.
