Lynnwood expands housing supply after apartment complex opens

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Koz apartment complex in Lynnwood officially opened in February, adding 199 new units to the housing inventory near Alderwood Mall. Designed for residents earning below 80% of the area median income, the complex offers studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments with rents ranging from $1,275 to $2,175. Tenants can access amenities such as a rooftop deck, shuffleboard, and pool table. City officials emphasize the importance of such developments in meeting the growing housing demand, aiming for a target of 30,183 units by 2044. As of 2020, the city recorded 16,132 occupied housing units, with almost 40% of households burdened by housing costs.

Mayor Christine Frizzell noted that Koz exemplifies a regional model for creating housing opportunities. The city has not seen any other apartment complex openings since the beginning of the year, with the next expected in 2026. The recent adoption of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan underscores Lynnwood's commitment to expanding its housing options.
