Edmonds School Board approves cuts of 12 full time employees ahead of 2025-26 school year

The Edmonds School District Board approved cuts equivalent to 12 full-time positions to address an $8. 5 million budget deficit for the 2025-2026 school year. The board adopted a resolution indicating that anticipated financial resources are inadequate to cover projected expenses, leading to necessary spending reductions. Affected staff will be notified by May 15, and the total number of job losses may fluctuate due to part-time positions. Superintendent Dr.

Rebecca Miner highlighted that previous layoffs resulted in many staff members being rehired. In addition, the district is considering further cuts, including reductions in middle school athletics and substance abuse prevention specialists. Legislative updates revealed that the district could achieve a positive balance of approximately $1. 4 million if certain bills are signed by the governor. The district is particularly focused on funding changes for special education, which could yield over $1.
