Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District anticipates an $8. 5 million budget deficit for the 2025-26 school year, leading to a crucial vote on staff cuts at the April 29 school board meeting. The district is required to notify affected employees by May 15, with final budget estimates expected on June 24. Plans to cut 12 positions could affect middle school athletics, high school substance abuse prevention programs, and a proposed 5% districtwide budget reduction. Over the last two years, the district has implemented more than $25 million in cuts, primarily reducing staff and extracurricular programs, including music and sports.

Since April 2024, around $10 million in cuts have targeted administrative staff and support services. In addition to addressing budget concerns, the board will also vote on a completed public works contract for HVAC upgrades at Mountlake Terrace High School, completed between July and August 2024. The meeting will include a financial report for February and a legislative update following the state legislative session. The session will begin at 6:30 p. m.

at the district’s Educational Service Center and will be livestreamed on the district's website.
