Step aboard Lynnwoods Interurban Trolley for an award-winning history lesson
History enthusiasts can step aboard a piece of local heritage on May 3 at Heritage Park, where presentations on the Seattle-Everett Interurban Railway will be held. The Alderwood Manor Heritage Association hosts the event, featuring historians Cheri Ryan and Kevin Stadler, who will discuss the trolley's significance from 1910 to 1939. The presentations will occur inside a restored Niles trolley car, with sessions at 11 a. m. and 1 p.
m. The railway connected Seattle and Everett, significantly impacting the development of the Lynnwood area and its poultry industry. The trolley service declined in the 1920s due to the rise of the automobile, ceasing operations in 1939. Afterward, the trolley tracks were removed, but the right-of-way evolved into pedestrian trails and bike paths. Ryan, who has a deep connection to the area's history, emphasizes the importance of preserving and sharing this heritage.
