Letter to the editor Four necessary changes to Regional Fire Authority operations

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Edmonds recently voted to join the South County Fire RFA, but council member Niall McShane opposed the decision due to insufficient negotiation of critical terms. He outlined four necessary changes to enhance RFA operations, which he believes are vital for cost management and service improvement. His proposals include matching Shoreline’s benefit charge funding model to distribute costs more equitably, establishing an independent commission to evaluate service delivery models, and committing to publish specific metrics for each member city. Additionally, McShane called for data-driven improvement plans focused on continuous service enhancement rather than merely increasing resources. He emphasized the importance of these changes for residents not just in Edmonds but also in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, and Mill Creek.

By advocating for these adjustments, McShane aims to improve the overall efficiency of RFA services. His recommendations reflect a proactive approach to managing financial burdens on homeowners while ensuring quality emergency services. Residents are encouraged to join in lobbying for these essential reforms.
