South County Fire outreach manager named national Fire Life Safety Educator of the Year

Shawneri Guzman, the Community Outreach Manager at South County Fire, has been honored as the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes educators leading efforts to enhance community safety and effectively utilize NFPA programs. Fire Chief Bob Eastman commended Guzman as an innovator and advocate, highlighting her role in advancing community risk reduction initiatives in Snohomish County. With a remarkable 25-year career in life safety education, Guzman coordinates Safe Kids Snohomish County and serves as president of the Snohomish County Fire Prevention Association. She is also an instructor for the Washington Child Passenger Safety Program and actively participates in the Snohomish County Traffic Safety Task Force.

Guzman expressed her deep commitment to her community, stating that educating and protecting residents is a calling for her. She has previously been recognized as the Washington Public Fire Educator of the Year in 2021 and Outstanding Safe Kids Coordinator in 2020. Both Guzman and South County Fire will receive a $1,000 stipend, with formal recognition planned at the NFPA Conference and Expo in June.
