Rep. Rick Larsen hosts roundtable meeting about transportation funding, visits Scriber Creek Trail

U. S. Rep. Rick Larsen convened a roundtable meeting with local officials at Lynnwood City Hall to discuss surface transportation projects and the implications of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Enacted by President Biden in November 2021, the BIL allocates about $1 trillion for various infrastructure needs, including $350 billion for public roads and bridges.

Larsen emphasized the necessity of infrastructure investments for job creation and regional economic growth, stating, “You can’t have a big-league economy with low-league infrastructure. ” Local leaders, including mayors and public works directors, highlighted the challenges they face in securing reliable federal funding to maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure. Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz noted the importance of federal partnerships to support innovative transportation solutions for mobility-challenged individuals. The Highway 99 Revitalization Project in Edmonds was highlighted as a key initiative focusing on safety and walkability. The discussions provided a crucial opportunity for local officials to communicate their priorities and challenges to Larsen, who plans to advocate for their needs in Washington, D.
