The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is set to return to Snohomish County in summer 2025, providing a crucial resource for low-income seniors seeking to incorporate fresh produce into their diets. This initiative not only promotes health and well-being but also supports local farmers by increasing the use of farmers markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs. Eligible participants can apply for an $80 pre-loaded benefit card to purchase nutritious fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs from local vendors. To qualify, applicants must be residents aged 60 or older (or 55 and older for Native Americans) with monthly incomes below specified thresholds. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.

m. on May 5, 2025, and are accepted online or by mail, with the former option saving time and offering language assistance through Google Translate. Cards will be distributed to eligible applicants in mid-June and must be utilized by October 31, 2025. This program, sponsored by various government agencies, significantly enhanced access to fresh produce for over 2,700 seniors in 2025, demonstrating its community impact. As Cole Caplan from the Snohomish County Human Services Department stated, the SFMNP is a valuable resource that strengthens local food systems and promotes better health among older adults.
