WSDOT invites public to online open house and survey to help improve rail, starts April 15

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is set to update its State Rail Plan, acknowledging the need for efficient and sustainable transportation solutions as population growth is expected in the coming decades. To ensure the plan reflects community needs, WSDOT is inviting public feedback through an online open house and survey from April 15 to June 24. Jason Biggs, the director of WSDOT's Rail, Freight and Ports Division, highlighted that rail plays a vital role in moving people and goods while minimizing congestion and emissions. The online open house will provide visitors with access to background materials on statewide rail planning and a survey to express their views on current rail usage and future aspirations. Recognizing the digital divide, free temporary internet access is available at various locations for residents without broadband.

WSDOT will also host several webinars in May and June to further engage the community and discuss rail-related topics. The feedback collected will be instrumental in shaping the updated rail plan, which will be submitted to state and federal leaders in early 2026. This initiative reflects WSDOT's commitment to creating a rail system that supports Washington’s communities, economy, and environment.
