Lynnwood Council set to vote April 14 on annexation of former Alderwood Middle property

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Lynnwood City Council is set to vote on April 14 on whether to annex the former Alderwood Middle School property, a move that could significantly impact the Edmonds School District's development plans. The district is currently building a new middle school on the site, essential for accommodating students from the recent transition of sixth graders into middle school. District Director of Capital Projects, Taine Wilson, emphasized the importance of this annexation to expedite construction before the 2028-29 school year. If approved, the petition will be reviewed by the Snohomish County Boundary Review Board before a public hearing is held. In addition to the annexation vote, the council will consider designating a contaminated half-acre property as surplus for sale, as remediation costs may be prohibitive.

The city purchased this property in 2020 for a development project that ultimately did not materialize. Lastly, a public hearing on a commute trip reduction plan aims to encourage alternative transportation options for city residents. The full agenda will be accessible on the city’s website, providing transparency and engagement opportunities for the community.
