Lynnwood City Council Robert Leutwyler takes oath of office, social worker contract with county approved

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Robert Leutwyler was sworn in as Lynnwood's new city councilmember on Monday night, concluding a lengthy and controversial search for the Position 5 seat vacated by former Councilmember Julieta Altamirano-Crosby. His appointment followed a tumultuous process where two previous appointees withdrew, with Jessica Roberts resigning after her explicit social media presence was exposed. Leutwyler, who has a background in military service and currently works for Amazon, expressed his commitment to serving the Lynnwood community and earning the trust of its residents. He previously ran against Altamirano-Crosby in 2023, receiving 35% of the vote. In addition to Leutwyler's appointment, the Lynnwood City Council approved a contract for a social worker to collaborate with law enforcement, aimed at addressing mental health and social issues in the community.

The total contract cost for 2025 is $219,830. 50, with a significant portion funded by a grant from the Verdant Health Commission. This initiative reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community services. A recording of the council meeting is available on the city’s website for residents to review.
