Lynnwood City Council Robert Leutwyler takes oath of office, social worker contract with county approved

Robert Leutwyler was sworn in as Lynnwood's new city councilmember on Monday night, concluding a lengthy and controversial search for the Position 5 seat vacated by former Councilmember Julieta Altamirano-Crosby. His appointment followed a tumultuous process where two previous appointees withdrew, with Jessica Roberts resigning after her explicit social media presence was exposed. Leutwyler, who has a background in military service and currently works for Amazon, expressed his commitment to serving the Lynnwood community and earning the trust of its residents. He previously ran against Altamirano-Crosby in 2023, receiving 35% of the vote. In addition to Leutwyler's appointment, the Lynnwood City Council approved a contract for a social worker to collaborate with law enforcement, aimed at addressing mental health and social issues in the community.

The total contract cost for 2025 is $219,830. 50, with a significant portion funded by a grant from the Verdant Health Commission.
